CSEM promotes the MEGAROB concept for the manufacturing industry

On 15th September 2014, CSEM SA hosted a workshop about the Megarob project addressed to the manufacturing industry in Central Switzerland. Under the topic “Efficient production– With laser trackers and robots to high precision” the workshop with more than 30 attendees comprised two technical talks, a technology demonstration and a networking apéro.

Dr. Philippe Steiert’s, Director CSEM Regional Centers, welcome speech opened the event. Mr. Markus Steiner, Product Manager Software at Hexagon Metrology – Leica Geosystems AG, started the technical part by introducing his company as well as explaining the laser tracker technology. He illustrated possible use-cases in industrial environments for improving manufacturing precision by the combination of laser trackers and robots.

A further technical presentation was held by Mr Philipp Glocker, Head Robotics & Automation at CSEM SA. He introduced today’s challenges in manufacturing of large parts and explained the innovative solution being developed in the Megarob project. He also detailed the robotic technology implementing position correction using laser tracker that enables the concept of the Megarob project.

The guests were invited to join a live demonstration of this approach in the labs of CSEM, led by Mr Diego Boesel, R&D Engineer at CSEM SA. He showed the improvement of precision in a manufacturing process using a robot corrected by laser tracker in comparison to a traditional process. A networking appetizer with lifely discussions between guests and speakers completed the event.
